Popularity of the English language has led it be recorded in the current era as the most spoken language in the world.

This is because it is widely known due to its widespread and it aids in ensuring there is effective communication.

English is spoken as the first language or as an alternative language by over 800 million people around the world, it follows Mandarin closely.

This is because Mandarin is the most spoken language across the globe.

English language widespread can be attributed to the colonization people, whereupon decolonization many countries were left speaking the English language.

It was upgraded to be the official language among most Commonwealth countries and records show that it is the official language in over 67 countries.

The English language is composed of only 27 words that are known as the alphabet and its grammar and vocabulary is diverse.

It borrows heavily from other languages and its usage varies with the people that interact with the English language speakers.

Origin Of English

English originated from north-west Germany and the region around Netherlands and most of its phrases and words were derived from other languages like French and German.

There are many terms within the English language that have been derived from other languages that do not make sense.

For example, ‘long time no see’ which is a literal translation form Chinese.

There are names derived from native Irish speakers that have been turned around and are used in the English language such as ‘butterfly’, which in native Irish was known as ‘flutterby.’

The most ancient English world that has been used since the 5th Century during the formation of the English language is ‘town.’

The writer Shakespeare contributed a great deal to the evolution of the English language and helped create different English words such as birthplace or blush and torture among others.

The word ‘Goodbye’ emanated from the Old English phrase, ‘God Be with you.’

There are many accents derived from the English language, United States has a record of about 27 different accents and dialects of the same English language.

What is commonly known as the British accent came into existence in London around the time of the American Revolution.

Influence Of Social Media

Correct use of the English language has been influenced by use of social media, shortening of words and use of abbreviations such as LOL, LMAO have been used so often in the modern world.

The shortest grammatically correct word in the English language is ‘Go’, it is verb that means an instruction to move somewhere and can be modified.

The English dictionary is continually modified with about 4000 words being added to the dictionary each year.

This illustrates how the English language keeps evolving due to interactions.

Social media has directly affected English grammar and pronunciation and most recently the word LOL common in social media was added to the Oxford English dictionary in 2011.

Most Common Words In English

According to a survey conducted by the Anthropologists on the influence of culture on the English language, while communicating about 11% of the words used by English speakers mostly consists of the letter E.

Additionally the most common English words used by any English speaker are ‘I’ and ‘You.’

According to another research done on all languages, the English language speakers were singled out to be the most happy language users in the world.

This is because there was extensive use of the words ‘oh’ and ‘happy’.

It was calculated that the words were approximately used three more times than the words ‘sad’ or ‘demotivated.’

The numbers of English speakers are many and about one quarter of the world’s population speaks English.

Additionally in every single country there are at least ten English speakers.

English is the only most spoken language that does not have an organization set up for its propagation.

This is as opposed to French which has Academie Francaise.

Spanish Real Academia Espanola and Germany, these organization are tasked with ensuring that the languages evolve with reference to grammar and vocabularies.

Research has also shown that the most used adjective is good while the most used noun is time.

Many English words have synonyms, but the word that has the most definitions is ‘set.’

Many English words rhyme with each other however; the words ‘month, orange, silver and purple’ have no rhyming words.

A survey done showed that most of the texts written in the internet contain words written in the English language and about 97% of the words are in English.
